Jason Wydra

In October of 2003, a group of enterprising skateboarders, hardcore music enthusiasts and carpenters built a half-pipe in their apartment above a bike shop near Queen Street West in Toronto. Founder Jason Wydra had originally intended the space to be a place where he and his friends could skate and sleep. Soon enough, bands were setting up on the half-pipe to play shows to increasingly large crowds of friends and fans in the community. Ten years later, Soybomb HQ has become one of the city’s most beloved DIY venues, with some events bringing in over 1,000 people throughout the evening. The space has maintained its inclusive ethos in the midst of a rapidly changing neighbourhood. As their 10th anniversary approaches, Wydra shared some insights as to how Soybomb has managed to survive and flourish for all these years." - Weird Canada
